Merry Christmas

As I sit this Christmas Eve morning and look out on the beautiful snow, I am reflecting. These snow bound days have given me an opportunity to reflect on this past year. 2008 has been a year full of joy and sorrow.

There were so many joys to celebrate...
I celebrated with you, my Healthy Weigh friends, when you married off your children, when you became Grandparents, and even when you had new children of your own. I celebrated with you as you sent your little ones to school, and when you sent your bigger ones to college! I celebrated with you as you lost weight and changed on the outside and celebrated when you changed in even bigger ways on the inside.

There were times of great sorrow this year too.
I suffered with you, my Healthy Weigh friends, when you watched your parents pass away, when you had surgery and illness, and when you struggled to stay positive during hard economic times. I prayed for you when I watched you have concerns for your children and grandchildren. I had empathy when you struggled with this very difficult journey of losing weight for life.

As I reflect back, I am blessed to say that I have had the amazing opportunity to walk beside you in good times and in bad. I thank you on this Christmas Eve, for the opportunity to do so.

For those of you who are celebrating with joy this day, I celebrate with you...for those of you who carry deep sorrow today, I say a prayer for you, that the peace of God would guard your hearts and your minds this Christmas.

Merry Christmas friends,

Always encouraging you.

Cabin Fever

I have been thinking about cabin fever today. I've talked to friends, emailed, and watched the news. It seems most of the people in the area have a bout of "the fever."
We sing about a white Christmas, pray for snow days, and dream of a winter wonderland...and then it hits and we're counting the days until it's gone!

I, for one, haven't been feeling "the fever." I've been questioning why some do and some don't. I think a lot of it has to do with personality types...there's those that love to GO...and those that enjoy an excuse to relax and do nothing. I guess I'm the latter.
I don't know that I've always been that way though. I've been thinking the last few days about the changes I've made in the last few years.
Last year my word for the year was BALANCE. As I studied that word, I learned to find time for work, and play, for going and doing nothing.
As I ponder some of the other words I've chosen over the last few years, CONTENTMENT and STILL. I realize that my words have caused me to take a look at what I really need to be satisfied. Being satisfied in the present moment is something I've gotten better and better at.

As I've thought about you, my clients, my friends and my family this week...I hope that you are truly practicing what I have come to believe is the greatest tool for personal contentment...the truth of knowing what you can control and what you can't control.
The list of what we can't control in these last days goes on and on...the weather, the traffic, airplanes, trains and automobiles! The things we can control are right inside of each one of us.

I encourage you in these next days to come...to make a list, if necessary, of all the things that are outside of your control...and then next to that, the things that you have control of. They will surely have to do with loving your family, spending time focusing on self care, and I hope, looking at the true meaning of Christmas.

I welcome comments about cabin fever. I do miss seeing all of you and look forward to seeing your beautiful faces soon.

Always encouraging you,
Letha

Snow Day!

Many of us are having a snow day today! These unexpected days "trapped" at home can take on whatever look you want them to have.

Today can be a day that you nurture yourself...read a book, do a pedicure, or nap and watch and old movie! or...
Today can be a day of getting things done...catch up on laundry, wrap gifts, and finish your Christmas cards!

What ever kind of day you choose, you can make it a great day.

Unexpected days can throw us off. When we're not in our routine, staying on program seems harder. We have a choice about that.

Decide now...that you are going to say 100% on program today! Decide now... that you are not going to let this day be about food! Decide now...that what ever kind of day you have, you will lay your head down tonight feeling satisfied and proud of the choices you made today.

It's Thursday...do you need a positive affirmation?
How 'bout this one..." Snow days are great days to eat healthy and take care of myself."

Missing you all today...glad I have an outlet to write you and have a little "visit."

Have a beautiful day.

Always encouraging you.

Baby It's Cold Outside!

It looks like we're in for a cold snap! There's a lot to do to get ready for the cold weather. This weekend we did the things around the house that you do...covered hose bibs, got heaters ready, wrapped pipes...you know, those things you do to get ready for a cold snap.

Along with getting our homes ready for the cold weather, we need to be thinking about getting ourselves ready too. If you're like me, cold weather makes me want to snuggle up with a good book, wrap my self in a blanket, and yes...eat "comfort food."

This is where my belief systems are changing. I'm so glad to know, that I really don't find "comfort" from eating high fat, high calorie foods. In fact what I find when I eat that way, is disappointment, unwanted pounds, and discouragement. "Comfort food" has taken on a new meaning.

Now..."comfort food" means Nancy's Spicy Vegetable Soup, it means a warm cup of tea or coffee, it means a pot of Healthy Weigh Chili Soup. "Comfort" isn't found in high fat or high calorie foods, It's found in something warm and healthy.

"Comfort" is also found on the pages of a good book, or in front of a fire place with the time to journal personal feelings about the holidays. It's found looking at the twinkling of Christmas lights, or enjoying the sights and the smells of a holiday candle. "Comfort" is something that happens in the soul...not just in the stomach.

As you prepare for this cold snap, I encourage you to think about ways that you can "comfort" yourself so that when we get through this chilly season, you will be healthier, body and soul.

Stay warm and comforted!

Always encouraging you.

Your Word for 2009

I'm wondering if you'll join us at The Healthy Weigh this year with one of our new year 's traditions?...choosing a word for the year. A word, that if studied and focused on, will alter your life in 2009.

Words carry enormous power to move us to a greater level of living. Words create impressions, images and expectations. They build psychological connections. Words dictate how we think, and since our thoughts dictate our actions, there's a powerful connection between the words we focus on and speak, and the results we get.

Poorly chosen words can kill enthusiasm, impact self-esteem, lower expectations and hold people back.
Well chosen words motivate people, offer hope, impact thinking, and alter results. Do you want altered results in 2009?

Choose a word, just for you...then become an expert at it. Select a word that creates a visual of the desired outcome. Choose your word as if it matters...because it does. Research it, become a student of it, and display it all year. Let your friends and family know about your word. Allow your word to alter you in 2009.

Drop by The Healthy Weigh and choose a word off the wall...We've got 100 or so to choose from. Join us in a fun and life changing tradition.

Always encouraging you,
Letha

It's a Wonderful Life!

George Bailey, the richest man in town...don't you just love that movie? I watched it with my family this weekend and was struck by one of the lines. Clarence was looking down on George and asked the question..."Is he sick?" and Joseph answered back, "No, worse...he's discouraged."

Discouragement can ruin a life. It can keep you from being who you were intended to be. It can definitely keep you from seeing who you are!

Discouragement comes...it comes to all of us. It is the deprivation of courage and confidence.

At The Healthy Weigh, we encourage! We help point you in the right direction. We believe in the power of thoughts and words and use those to impart courage and confidence!

If you're feeling a little like George Bailey these days...discouraged and focusing on your failures, step into The Healthy Weigh and let us remind you that you truly do have a wonderful life and you have all that you need to be successful!

Always encouraging you,
Letha

Happy Thanksgiving!

This week probably doesn't go down in history as the best week of the year to be on a diet! Just the thought of Thanksgiving can put you on a journey down a road of over indulgence and weight gain.

I want to tell you this morning that there's another road to go down. You just have to choose the road you'll take.

This week you have the blessing of eating 21 meals...that's 3 a day for 7 days! One of those meals out of 21...could be a little more challenging than the rest.

You have the opportunity to follow your nutritional plan and lose weight this week. You can make the choice to stock up your fridge with the best of foods on our plan. You can eat fresh, healthy, wonderful food and have complete control for 20 meals this week! Then...you can face the challenge on Thanksgiving day, to make fresh, healthy, wonderful choices and end out this week...giving thanks for your health and your weight loss.

Make new history this year...go down a new road, look back at the end of this week and feel proud of your accomplishments. Start today...meal #1! You can do it!

Always Encouraging You,
Letha

I've Made a Decision

I've spent time this week with some good people. Good people who are living in fear. They are allowing the circumstances of our troubled economy to paralyze them. Instead of concentrating on the things they can control, they are focusing on all the things they can't control. That's an easy trap to fall in to these days.

As a business owner and a motivator of people, I've made a decision. I will be a beacon of hope and faith. I will concentrate on all of the things that I have control of. I will continue to take care of myself and renew my mind so that I am strong and ready for whatever comes my way...and I will be here for you. To encourage you, to challenge you and just to listen to you.

I am so blessed to get to spend time with such good people. My staff at The Healthy Weigh, the incredible clients that choose to be a part of our great program, and all of the support people that come along side me and The Healthy Weigh. For me, and for all of them, I've made this decision and I've cut off any other possibility!

Always encouraging you,
Letha

Hope for The Holidays

Hope... a feeling that what is wanted, will happen. So what is your hope for the holidays? What do you want this holiday season to look like? You could choose to "get through the holidays," or you could purpose to make this holiday season be the best you've ever had. Set some holiday goals this year!

When I think about the most wonderful time of the year...I think about it body, soul and spirit. What kind of goals can you set for your physical body? Include your eating and your exercise. When it comes to your soul, think about relationships and the things you could do to feed your mind and emotions. And lastly, but not least, your spirit. Take time this holiday season to be still. Plan on attending a service or two that will keep you focused on the true meaning of the season.

You have the opportunity to make this the best holiday season you've ever had. You can have hope for the holidays and what you want, can come true this year.

Always encouraging you,
Letha
